Opportunities to Grow

Promoting from within has always been important here at RiverHills Bank. 40% of all Managers at RiverHills Bank have started their careers in Retail. We currently have 16 employees working with us today that began as a Customer Service Representative and have been promoted to all different departments of the bank. Whenever a new opportunity presents itself, our current RHB staff are the first people we look to in order to fill that position, even before looking for outside candidates.

The bank not only worked around my college schedule, but they also took a chance on me after I graduated. They knew I wanted to pursue a job in Marketing, so together we started the RiverHills Bank Marketing Department. We still have a long way to go, but it helps that I feel that my managers are as invested in my success as they are the success of the department.

I’d have to say that being able to promote within has been a really huge step in the right direction! I think it really helps to build your self-esteem and gives you that opportunity to advance yourself and show yourself and others how much more you’re really capable of. It allows you to set bigger goals for yourself and gives you that motivation to really push yourself. It also gives you the ability to really build relationships and feel important. I feel beyond blessed to of been able to advance within and stretch my mind further, and to of been able to learn all these new things. Connecting the Dots

Although there are many different departments within the bank, none could stand alone. Each department overlaps with another. It is important to understand where and why those overlappings happen. Knowing the foundation elevates your understanding of the big picture of the bank. The knowledge you gain through one department can be applied to tasks in its neighboring department. There is no clear-cut starting or ending point in the journey for any one individual. Skills you learn in Retail can be directly applied to accomplishing tasks in Deposit Operations. An understanding of the different types of loans can help you understand when to direct Retail customers to a Commercial Loan Officer or a Mortgage Loan Officer. The crossovers go on and on.

Working in Retail Banking is essential and a great start. You learn the basics about most of the bank’s functions, and it will be a great tool for any department of the bank. It helped me understand how accounts work which helped with my duties when I was transferred into Deposit Ops and then into Accounting.
