In her speech, Ms. Hurtt shared that “Chestnut Village Apartments is more than just a building—it’s a symbol of hope, community, and progress. Moreover, Chestnut Village Apartments goes beyond mere housing—it’s a beacon of support, offering vital services like counseling, job training, and connections to essential resources tailored to the needs of our senior residents and it embodies RiverHills’ commitment to creating livable, accessible, and inclusive communities.”
Chestnut Village Apartments is a new construction of a two-story, senior housing apartment building situated on a nearly 3-acre parcel in a residential neighborhood in the southwestern portion of Ashtabula, Ohio. The land once housed an old elementary school that was demolished. Ashtabula Area City Schools Board of Education donated the property to Neighborhood Development Services Inc. for the purpose of constructing the new senior housing project. Chestnut Village Apartments houses 32 one-bedroom units, 100% set aside for seniors ages 55 and older and 100% affordable. The project incorporates gathering spaces for the tenants, including: a community room with kitchenette, laundry facilities, a fitness room, and a library/game room. The project also provides supportive services to the senior population residing at the building, including assistance with enrollment for senior services (meals, homemaker services, utility assistance, etc.), coordination of wellness services, counseling services, job training and/or placement services, and connections to resources and information based on residents' needs.
